The Nepean Triathlon

A Bridge to Overcome

The Nepean Triathlon celebrated its 15th anniversary. While the swim remained the same, the run course as planned was cut to 10km (minus a few challenging hills).

A major challenge though for the race organisers was the cycle course. A bridge on the course was being replaced so a last minute course change allowed the event to continue. The distance was trimmed by 4km but included a couple of mini ‘alps’ to keep things interesting.

The 1996 champions were Tim Bentley who won his last of a record 5 titles (only equalled in 2018 by Aaron Royle). In the ladies, a young Victorian, Joanne King took victory and made her mark on the senior ranks after winning the world junior triathlon title in 1996.
