Photo Finish!

The 2012 edition saw two London Olympic Triathlon representatives dominate the race and provide arguably the most exciting and memorable finish to a Nepean Triathlon.

Courtney Atkinson a long time competitor in the sport came from a long way back to chase down Dutch woman Rachel Klamer to win in a photo finish on the line for outright victory. The finish line photo captures the moment brilliantly and some say long time race commentator Matt Harris’s call of the race finish sounded like the end of the Melbourne Cup!

Atkinson also broke the course record in the time of 1:27:44 while Dutch Olympian Rachel Klamer missed breaking the women’s title by only 5 seconds.

The photo finish was to inspire an increase in prize money sponsorship which was to have a dramatic effect on the event the following year.
